COLLABORATION WITH ARTIST HAZEL NIXON 2023
|
Hazel and I met at University in 1997 studying Fine Art. Alongside our lives and careers, we have regularly met up to continue conversations and art practice. Over the Summer of 2023 Hazel and I worked on several large scale pieces, bringing together our own materials, techniques and practice to have a conversation on canvas.
Bringing experience from different paths, instinctively and intuitively an unspoken dialogue began. Collaborating on a single piece, working over each other's work, with trust, and without judgement something new and unknown emerged.
From the movement around the canvas, the responses to the materials and the interaction with it, a continuous conversation was allowed to flow. No right or wrong, no design, responding without talking or thinking; just doing, devoid of all roles and being purely in the moment, until a natural stop.
The three evocative collaborative works shown represent those captured moments. What we have tried to do with these works is represent and articulate through the communicative power of paint, fundamental authentic ways of working and communicating. We are using art to try and give space and time a different kind of value than it would otherwise have within the technological culture we live and work.
The work is currently showing at the House of St Johns Queen Square Bath. By Invitation only
